Privacy Policy
Last updated 4 October 2026
In short: your files and photos are scanned on your device and never leave it. If you allow it, we receive anonymous usage counts and crash reports. You can turn those off in Settings at any time, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
Who we are
Captured Clean is made by Captured Heart (“we”, “us”). It includes the Captured Clean apps for Mac and iPhone and this website. Questions about this policy can go to the Contact us page in the app or our Discord server.
What stays on your device
Everything the apps scan is processed on your Mac or iPhone. We never receive:
- file names, folder paths, or file contents;
- photos, videos, photo metadata, or the fingerprints used to find duplicates and similar shots;
- the list of apps installed on your Mac, or the processes running on it.
Your settings, storage alert levels, and theme are stored on your device. On iPhone, a storage summary is shared with the Captured Clean widget through an App Group on the same device.
What we collect
Anonymous usage statistics (PostHog)
When “Share anonymous usage statistics” is on in Settings, the apps send a small set of events so we can see which features are used. Events are not linked to your name, email, or Apple account, and we don’t build user profiles. Sizes and counts are rounded into ranges before they leave your device.
| Event | What it includes |
|---|---|
| App opened, first launch | Nothing beyond the event, app version, and system version |
| Cleanup scan, cleanup, uninstall | Number of categories and a size range, such as “1–10 GB” |
| Photos scanned, photos or files deleted | A count range and a size range |
| Storage alert, theme, or feedback type changed | The setting chosen |
Crash reports (Sentry)
When the same switch is on, the apps send a report if they crash. A report contains the app and system versions, device model, and the technical details of the crash. It does not contain your files, photos, name, or email.
We configure both services not to store IP addresses.
This website (PostHog)
If you click Accept on the cookie banner, this website uses PostHog to record the pages you visit, where you click (shown to us as heatmaps), and recordings of how you move through the pages. Anything typed into fields is hidden in recordings. PostHog stores an identifier in a cookie so visits can be grouped together. If you decline, or ignore the banner, nothing is recorded and no cookie is set. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of each page.
Sign in with Apple
If you sign in, Apple gives us an anonymous identifier for your account, which we use to give you the same Pro plan on all your devices. We don’t ask Apple for your name or email address.
Purchases (Apple, RevenueCat, Stripe)
On iPhone, purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. On Mac, purchases are handled by Stripe through RevenueCat Web Billing. Card details go directly to Apple or Stripe; we never see them. RevenueCat keeps a record of what you bought, linked to your Apple sign-in identifier or a random identifier, so your apps can unlock Pro.
Feedback you send
When you send feedback from the app, we receive your message, the reply email if you enter one, the app version, platform, and system version. It is delivered to a private channel on our Discord server that only the Captured Clean team can read, and it is used to answer you and improve the app.
Why we use this data
- Providing the service: unlocking Pro, restoring purchases, and answering feedback.
- Improving the apps: fixing crashes and learning which features matter, based on your consent through the Settings switch.
We don’t sell your data, show ads, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Service providers
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| PostHog | Anonymous usage statistics in the apps; website analytics, heatmaps, and session recordings (only with your consent) |
| Sentry | Crash reports |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases |
| RevenueCat | Purchase records and Pro access |
| Stripe | Mac payments and receipts |
| Cloudflare | Our server function, which forwards feedback and handles account deletion; it stores nothing |
| Discord | Receiving feedback in a private channel |
These providers may process data outside your country, under their own data protection terms.
How long we keep it
- Usage statistics, crash reports, and website analytics: up to 12 months.
- Purchase records: as long as you have an account, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Feedback: until it’s no longer needed to follow up, and at most 24 months.
Your choices and rights
- Turn off statistics and crash reports: Settings › Privacy › Share anonymous usage statistics.
- Delete your account: Settings › Account › Delete account. This revokes Sign in with Apple for Captured Clean and deletes your purchase record at RevenueCat. Active App Store subscriptions must also be canceled in your Apple account settings; deleting your account doesn’t cancel them.
- Access, correction, or deletion: depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you and to have it corrected or deleted. Contact us and we’ll reply within 30 days.
Children
Captured Clean is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above. For significant changes, we’ll also tell you in the app or on our Discord server before they take effect.
